Application Introduction

MgO and Kieserite are essential mineral inputs in the chemical and construction industries due to their reactivity, structural versatility, and environmental compatibility. These materials contribute significantly to the development of modern construction composites, flame-retardant systems, and chemical-resistant concrete.

MgO is widely recognized for its role in refractory and metallurgical products, particularly in the fabrication of high-temperature crucibles and magnesite-based cupels used in fire assay testing. These materials ensure minimal metal loss and strong lead absorption, with confirmed resistance to thermal shock in cupellation environments. In polymer composites, MgO acts as a synergistic flame retardant filler, especially in halogen-free insulation, reducing flammability and smoke release while enhancing char stability.

In construction materials, reactive MgO is used in low-carbon cement formulations where it improves dimensional stability, carbonation resistance, and mechanical strength, while also enabling lower-temperature processing. Multiple studies confirm its potential to replace part of Portland cement in eco-concrete mixes, contributing to sustainable building materials.

Kieserite, although traditionally used in agriculture, plays a role in industrial corrosion scenarios. It has been investigated in sulphate exposure tests for concrete, where its interaction with cementitious matrices helps simulate long-term degradation patterns, leading to new sulphate-resistant cement technologies. Furthermore, its magnesium and sulphate ion content improves the vulcanisation of rubber and acts as a filler that enhances dispersion, flexibility, and strength in elastomer blends.

Together, MgO and Kieserite are increasingly valued in green infrastructure development, offering both technical performance and environmental benefits. Their incorporation into next-generation construction systems is aligned with global goals for durability, low emissions, and circular use of mineral-based materials.
